Beyond the city

Join us on this excursion to the outskirts of Georgetown, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, where you will see the actual process of batik making among other cottage industries. The tour then takes you on a meadering drive around the island passing by fruit orchards and quaint villages. We'll stop at a fruit stall where we'll show you a variety of tropical fruits harvested locally. Finally, visit the island's famous Snake Temple. It is filled with the smoke of buring incense and a variety of pit vipers. Though they are believed to be rendered harmless by the incense, they have been de-venomed just to be on the safe side!

Hill & temple

The Kek Lok Si Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in South East Asia. Nestled within the hills of Penang, it is dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy and is fondly known as the Temple of Paradise. The 7-tier Pagoda of 10,000 Buddhas, which dominates the temple, is influenced by the architectural styles of the Thais, Burmese and Chinese. After exploring the temple complex, we'll take the funicular rail ride up Penang Hill. Located 830m above sea level, this was once a cool hill retreat during the colonial days. Now, it's perfect spot for a panoramic view of Georgetown and the Straits of Malacca. On a clear day, you might even see Butterworth on the mainland.

Trishaw & trinkets

This evening tour begins with a delicious dinner at a local restaurant, followed by a stroll at a local night market where you'll find a colourful display of diverse products, from food to utensils. Walking by the stalls, you might begin to understand why the night markets are popular places for Malaysians to shop. A trip to one is always fun and rewarding. The market is not only a place to do our weekly shopping but also a great place to find good food and snacks. After the market, the tour ends with a trishaw ride around the quaint streets of Georgetown. These "man-powered" vehicles are familiar sights in Penang and a great way to see the city.

Bridge & mainland

The tour starts with a ferry ride across the channel between Penang Island and the mainland. This was the "traditional" way of travelling between the two places. On arrival at Butterworth, we will drive pass the Mak Maidin Industrial area before arriving at the Bird Park. Built on two-hectares of land, there are more than 300 species of birds from all around the world, of which more than 100 species are Malaysian. After visiting the Park, complete your trip with a drive across Penang Bridge, a 13.5 km ride offering wonderful vistas of the island on your way back.
